The Cornish legend of Tamara tells of a beautiful water nymph who loved the sun-drenched Dartmoor surface over her dark underworld home. After flirting with two giants, Tavy and Torridge, her furious father turned her into the River Tamar. Tavy and Torridge were also turned into rivers, forever following her to the sea.
